The Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge takes in the highest peaks of North, Mid and South Wales.
After meeting in Cardiff at 8pm we then drive up by minibus to North Wales to start our challenge.
Our Welsh Three Peaks Challenge begins on the highest mountain in Wales, Snowdon or Yr Wyddfa in Welsh. We start at the base of Snowdon at approx 4am and start our ascent just as th sun rises. At the summit (1,085m), weather permitting you can see spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.
On exceptionally clear days Ireland (the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland) Scotland, England, The Isle Of Man and of course Wales can all be seen.
We then make our way down and jump back in the minibuses and head off.
After a short drive we arrive at our next peak Cadiar Idris (Chair of Idris). Our ascent route to the summit take us past Llyn Cau and along the rim of Craig Cau to the summit Penygadair (Top of the Chair)(893m). On a clear day you can see as far as Snowdon and the hills of Shropshire. Once again there is time for some quick snaps before making our way down and on to our last peak.
After a few hours in the minibus we get to Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales and the Breacon Beacons. This is the shortest climb and the elevation is only 886m but again once at the summit the views are truly breathtaking. Once we have had a group photo on the top of our final peak, we then make our way back down for some well deserved hot food at the bottom. From here we will then make our way back to Cardiff and aim to be back at 8pm
