Newport Instructors

All our instructors are serving or ex-serving members of the Armed Forces with current fitness qualifications. We will help motivate and encourage you to reach you goals whether you are new to fitness or a seasoned marathon runner looking for a new approach to training.



Nathan was born in Newport, South Wales in 1979. He joined the Army at 17 with the Royal Regiment of Wales. During his time with the regiment he travelled to places such as Germany, Poland, Canada and Belize and served in operational theatres such as Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Kosovo. He left the forces after 8 years as a Corporal to pursue a career in Close Protection. After 3 years doing this and various other roles in the security industry he decided he wanted to get back into the fitness industry and joined the Military Preparation College in Cardiff as a physical training instructor. After a year in this post he took over the position of Operations Manager for British Military Fitness"











Born in Newport but raised in Kitwe Zambia. On returning to the UK I joined the R.A.F aged 18. I served with the R.A.F Crash Rescue Service and later with the R.A.F Regiment serving in Germany, Northen Ireland and the Falklands. On leaving the R.A.F I then worked for the U.S Army for 6 years at R.A.F Caerwent near Chepstow. I joined Gwent Police as a Custody Offiicer in 1995 and I am currently serving at Newport Central Police Station. Any spare time is taken up by my role as Team Manager for Pill Harriers RFC.












Amanda was born in Dover, Kent in 1981. After completing medical school in Washington DC and my Masters’ in Chemistry at the University of Kent I joined the Royal Corps of Signals in 2004 as an Electronic Warfare Specialist Operator. After extensive training I was posted to 14th Signal Regiment EW where I took on my position as an EW detachment commander. Taking an active EW roll in many theatres around the world the latest being Afghanistan seconded to specialist teams of forces. In a sporting capacity whilst serving with the Army I represented my regiment in sky diving, sailing, long distant running, the Lanyard Trophy Endurance race across Brecon on numerous occasions, ultra marathons, Iron Man, Cross Country running, athletics and boxing. As an Advanced Scuba Diving instructor I also had the responsibility of Diving Officer for the regiment and the adventurous training wing taking soldiers diving all around the world. After leaving the Army in Sept 09 as a Lance Corporal I have completed my CYQ 2 in Sports and Fitness and am currently working towards my Personal Training Instructor’s qualification. I still participate in endurance races around the UK as well as horse riding and boxing. My current aspiration is to complete the Marathon des Sables. I have a genuine passion in fitness and want to instil this in all that I train!




Born and raised in Newport, South Wales, Chris joined the Royal Marines in 2006, completing the physically and mentally demanding Royal Marines Commando Training later the same year. In 2007 he deployed to Afghanistan with 40 Commando Royal Marines as part of Task Force Helmand and spent 6 months in Kajaki, deep in the Taliban controlled areas of Northern Helmand Province. In 2008 Chris underwent extensive driver training, including Viking (a protected all terrain vehicle) operator training and deployed again to Afghanistan, this time as part of the Armoured Support Group RM, utilising the Viking ATVP, providing versatile mobility and close fire support to the ground forces of Task Force Helmand. As well as operations in Afghanistan, Chris is Arctic Warfare Trained, and a Heavy Machine Gun Specialist. Chris left the Royal Marines in 2010 in order to study Civil Engineering at the University of Wales, Newport. He joined BMF in August 2011 and is keen to help people to achieve their fitness goals whatever they may be.
